My story.
I’d love to say I spent my days at school dreaming of one day becoming an upholsterer but the reality is, in 2005 I finished school at 15 and headed to sixth form. I hated it. I dropped out after my first year, much to my Mothers dismay as she dragged me to the job centre shouting ‘You aren’t sitting on your arse all day, you can get a job!’
I applied for various naff jobs and then stumbled across a vacancy as an apprentice upholsterer. Having no idea what it was really all about, I trundled off to the interview without much expectation. After having learned more about the role, by the end of the interview I was skipping out of the place, keeping everything crossed that I landed the job!
I got the job. My upholstery journey began.
At school I was good at art, very practical and excelled in English and sports, mostly creative subjects, so the world of upholstery was ideal. I loved the variety of work, no two jobs ever the same. I was mentored by two fantastic upholsterers, Martin and Tony, both with a wealth of experience spanning traditional, domestic and commercial work.
I worked my way through a City & guilds Level 2 and 3 apprenticeship and won some pretty cool awards along the way, Regional Apprentice of The Year, Runner Up National Apprentice of the year and one other Regional award. At the grand old age of 23 I decided to spread my wings and flee the nest and with that, Lucianne Designs was born.
I have had the pleasure of working on some truly inspiring furniture over the years, from beautiful, charming antiques, to creating unique, bespoke upholstered frames. I have worked on professional football clubs and also appeared twice on the TV show Money for Nothing.
The world of furniture has developed my passion for interiors and I am utterly colour obsessed! I love to push the boundaries and gently encourage my clients to do the same. Life is happier with colour!
